Those interested in applying for out-of-zone or tuition status in Elizabethton City Schools for the 2017-18 school year may do so beginning on April 20 using the new online application, the Cyclone Connection. This replaces the lottery process used in previous years. New and updated facilities have made space for 75 new tuition students at Elizabethton High School and 40 new tuition students at T. A. Dugger Junior High School.
New tuition students are those who live outside Elizabethton city limits but are applying to attend Elizabethton City Schools (ECS). Out-of-zone students are students who wish to attend a different Elizabethton elementary school than the Elizabethton elementary school for which they are zoned. Parents of current tuition students and current out-of-zone students do not need to apply through the Cyclone Connection since their children are considered returning students.
Applications will be accepted during an enrollment window beginning at 8 a.m. on April 20 and ending at 7 p.m. on May 5. Parents who apply during this enrollment window will receive priority placement over those who apply after May 5. Applications will be organized based on the Priority Order (available at ECSchools.net) and based on the order in which they are received. The link for the application will be posted on the ECS home page as well as on the ECS Facebook page.
Applicants will be notified in mid-May with their child's place in line. K-5 students will be informed by Aug. 11 of their child's acceptance, and parents of students in grades 6-12 will be notified by or before Aug. 11. Parents are welcome to apply after the enrollment window, but they may not be notified in May of their child's place in line if they do so. Those without Internet access are welcome to use a computer at Central Office or at the Public Library.
